Sifting for Sustenance
Captured inside a traditional tribal home in Wayanad, Kerala, this documentary photograph depicts an elderly Paniya woman meticulously sifting rice using a woven bamboo tray (mura) to remove husk and debris before cooking kanji (rice porridge). Under a striking beam of natural light, the floating grains highlight an everyday ritual of indigenous food preparation and rural sustenance.
